Do you know the signs of a stroke? Knowing what to look for can save a life.

  • Sudden numbness, paralysis, or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
  • Sudden confusion, difficulty speaking or understanding simple statements
  • Sudden blurred or decreased vision, trouble seeing in one or both eyes
  • Severe, unexplainable headache, often described as the worst of your life
  • Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, and loss of balance or coordination, especially when accompanied by one or more other warning signs

Every second matters.

Each year, approximately 800,000 Americans suffer a stroke. And with every stroke, every second matters.

Where and how quickly you get the right care can make all the difference in your outcome. So we make it easy to get the immediate care you need. With Jefferson Health, you have access to two Comprehensive Stroke Centers in Center City and Abington, and certified Primary Stroke Centers in Torresdale and New Jersey.

Jefferson Health is home to one of the nation’s most advanced centers, acclaimed for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and research of stroke. We’re also home to the largest facility dedicated to the care of acute stroke in the Philadelphia region.

We treat a stroke with expertise, fast.

Our telemedicine service (JET) brings our experienced stroke experts to over 35 Jefferson Health Neuroscience Network hospitals throughout our region. With this realtime virtual service, a Jefferson neurologist or neurosurgeon is able to remotely assess patients in an average of just 10 minutes.

As a health system, we admit close to 5,000 stroke patients per year at all hospital locations, making us one of the largest health systems in the U.S. treating and caring for stroke patients.

Our acute stroke units and neuroscience intensive care units are staffed by physicians and nurses with advanced training in stroke care. Our goal is to get you better and help you stay that way by treating any underlying issues, working with you on a rehabilitation plan, and providing the ongoing care you need to make sure you don’t suffer another stroke.
